GOLDEN SHOWER OF HITS: Pee Wiz Sprinkles NL Parks With Home Runs.

The Chicago Cubs managed to salvage one win out of their four game series in San Francisco after sweeping three against the Padres at home. One guy managed to have multi home run games in each series.

Patrick Wisdom. Pee Wiz for short. Currently 4th on the Cubs in home runs with seven. Slashing a tidy 412/444/1.022 in thirteen games.

Who could have seen this coming?

OK, Bryan did.

If my dad were still alive, he’d watch Wisdom flatten baseballs and immediately dismiss it with, “Let him get around the league before I get excited”. Then he’d make sure to bring up Cubs Legend Bob Speake, who tore through the National League in 1955. He hit 10 HR in May, then two the rest of the way. He’d tear through the PCL the following year before coming back to the Cubs in 1957. He’d be out of the bigs for good two years later.

Like Speake, Wisdom has been a terror in the minors. He has two separate years in the PCL where he’s hit 31 dingers. He puts balls over the fence. He’s had cups of coffee in the bigs with the Cardinals (who made him a first round pick in 2012), then the Rangers before getting a quick look with the Cubs last season.

Now, he’s making it impossible to send him back to Iowa. Having him at third base and Kris Bryant in left field currently gives the Cubs a lot more offensive firepower than Bryant at third and Joc Pederson in left. Now, Joc has a more established big league career (as long as you overlook the fact that he was terrible last year), but the game is about the here and now. And here and now, Pee Wiz gets his name in the lineup.

Will it last? Maybe? Probably not. But let’s just enjoy it while it lasts.
